Title
Languages in contact on the multilingual borders of South America: Spanish, Portuguese and Portuñol
Opponent: Professor Eeva Sippola, University of Helsinki
The purpose of this thesis seminar is to present the scope of the project in its final phase, focusing on the theoretical framework, methodological approach, and preliminary analytical findings. The findings cover two key areas: first, the classifications made by border residents regarding the contact language Portuñol and its contexts of use, and second, an initial analysis of documents relating to a specific bilingual school program (PEIBF). Additionally, the seminar will outline the planned content for two to three analytical chapters, which will examine: (1) the uses and functions of the three border languages, (2) the linguistic attitudes toward them, and (3) the political and educational language ideologies in the region, with special emphasis on the Intercultural and Bilingual Frontier Program
