Arts, Aesthetics and Communities

About the programme

The research program works with aesthetics as a cross-disciplinary field, filling a significant dimension in people's everyday life and existence, which requires both theoretical, methodological, and analytical attention. The aesthetic and the arts are both part of generating and supporting societal communities and are areas where differences and conflicts between different communities are negotiated.

The research program works with the aesthetic in established art forms (visual arts, architecture, music, theatre, literature, film), as well as aesthetic practices that go beyond or go across the established art forms. The latter can relate to fields as diverse as everyday aesthetic phenomena, post-anthropocentric aesthetics, media ecology, digital aesthetic practices, visual culture, sound art and culture, aesthetic approaches in political and strategic communication, the relationship between art, sensation, technology, and nature.
