PhD Student Sebastian Egholm Lund is defending his thesis, Fictions of Climate at the Fin de Siècle.
The thesis examines climate fiction from England, France, and the US in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Although hitherto underexamined, in a period of climatic variability and atmospheric pollution, authors such as Jules Verne, H. G. Wells, and Mary Bradley Lane begin to imagine fictional spaces where humans can tailor the climate to suit their unique needs. The thesis project provides a literary history of anthropogenic climate.
