Medicinal Products Corpus

Medicinal Products Corpus is a web-based tool for medical language translations allowing you to search and re-use approved translations of medical product information.

High demands on medicinal product texts

The formal demands on the language in medical product texts are high. In addition to a correct medical content, the texts that common consumers see on e.g. labels and patient information leaflets must be easy to understand. Therefore, it is a great advantage that companies' language professionals have easy access to approved translations.

"My impression of the database is very positive and it has really been useful in many of my translations. The effect of whole sentences/contexts, instead of single words, is incredible"

Anette Fleisbo, Regulatory Affairs Assistant, Wyeth Danmark

A large number of both medical and translation companies have already invested in the tool and report:

  • Increased language quality in the companies' translations
  • Increased productivity through fast and easy access to linguistic solutions

Content of Medicinal Products Corpus

Medicinal Products Corpus collects approx. 450 translations of product descriptions, patient information leaflets and label texts. The translations are approved by EMA, the European Medicines Agency, that is in charge of approving the marketing of new medical products. When a medical company applies for the approval to market a new medical product, the Danish Medicines Agency and EMA are responsible for the evaluation of the applications. This procedure includes the approval of a number of texts about the product including product descriptions, patient information leaflets and label texts.

New possibilities

Medicinal Products Corpus is an example of how the Corpus tool may be used for medical product texts. KCL is continuously working on expanding the uses of this tool with new relevant text genres. In addition to searching Medicinal Products Corpus, companies can get access to creating their own text corpuses. Through this, companies can collect, search and re-use the texts they use most frequently.
