About KCL

KCL is a development and technology transfer unit. We are founded on existing research within knowledge sharing, language and business communication which we transform into commercial products for use by the business community and educational environments. The products are sold through TermShare A/S which is an Ltd spun out from KCL. TermShare A/S is owned by Center for Erhvervsforskning (CEF), a university-based holding company. Please find more information about TermShare A/S in the left-hand menu.

The object of KCL is to create practical tools for efficient communication and to strengthen interdisciplinary and cross-institutional knowledge sharing. Our opinion is that now it is more important than ever to be able to acquire knowledge easily and efficiently. Thus, we regard it essential for the society's development to remove the almost waterproof shutters between university research and the business community. The universities hold a great amount of knowledge that may and should be transformed for the use of Danish trades and industries. At the same time, employees in the business community possess knowledge valuable to the researchers, due to its practical perspective and empirical nature.

In other words, there is a need for a cooperation model which makes it easy for the companies and the universities to exchange knowledge. Such a cooperation model should create the conditions for making the knowledge in a company very explicit at all times and should render it possible for companies within the same industry to share knowledge without compromising themselves. If the model is intended to unite researchers, language experts and specialists, it should be easy to use. KCL's tools are such models.

The target groups for KCL's products are all industries with a specialised (trade specific) language use, research units and educational institutions, translation companies, IT providers, companies within patent rights and intellectual property rights – everyone with an interest in efficient communication and updated knowledge on language use within a given subject area.

The work at KCL is organised into cross-institutional research and development projects within terminology, learning and (health) communication as well as language technology. Primarily, we are externally financed and have a lot of experience with both national and international project cooperations.

In extension of our research and development projects, we hold company courses and supplementary training courses in research communication, technical terminology (medical LSP) and language technology. The courses represent a synthesis of our development and research work, and at the same time, we ensure that the development of the ICT tools always takes place with consideration for the needs and wishes of the end users.
