VLC media player is a powerful free and open source media player.
It is capable of playing a very wide range of video files with different file types and encodings, and therefore a useful tool for viewing videos from different sources or points in time.
It also features a powerful frame extraction which can be used for manually taking screenshots, or for extracting frames from a video clip. This may be useful for showcasing observations from data in the form of videos.
Note that screenshots are stored in the computer's image library, and they are not named after the video, wherefore it may be necessary to rename them immediately after creation, or move them to a folder with the video in question.
