Aysha Amin will present her experiences in/with Gellerup, Andromeda 8220 and the corona lockdown, and introduce the short film Collective Amnesia – Update within the Crisis (11. Berlin Biennale) - a 9 min. long visual montage / postcard with video, images, conversations and music.

About the film:
“In this collaborative film we explore collective amnesia, the shape of memories and emotions that stay inside of us after crisis, trauma and disruption. Our visualization comes from conversations and thoughts that had formed quite naturally and informally during the COVID-19 lockdown months. We recognise the urgency of having our memories during and after times of emergency.

We are in a new speed while we inhabit our bodies, our minds, our homes, our infrastructure, our streets, our public space, our relationships and our earth.

Life is microscopic, spatially limited and stripped of usual noise. Our sense of freedom, of control, of direction and health even more enigmatic. We have an overwhelming capacity to forget and to become numb to our responsibilities collectively and individually.

We forget and we forget again – why? We don’t have the answer, we can only briefly share our experience on how it feels to live in constant aggressive physical transformation and crises and how that affects our wellbeing.”

About Aysha Amin and Andromeda:
Aysha Amin currently runs Andromeda as a gallerist/project leader and curator. She co-initiated Andromeda in 2017 as a local artist who does not shy away from critically addressing the political agenda, complexities and nuances of urban development. But also a reaction against the representation of the Gellerup neighbourhood in art, architecture, and urban planning. She is a co-curator at Copenhagen Architecture Festival: Aarhus. Co-founder and project leader at the food corporative and city branding platform, [Smag] à la Gellerup. She is the Aarhus correspondent for The Funambulist (Paris based) a magazine addressing the politics of space and bodies.

ANDROMEDA 8220 is an independent Art / Culture / Architecture Platform based in the neighborhood of Gellerup, Aarhus (DK). A non-profit housing area that houses 6500 souls who brought the area to life since the 80s, currently undergoing the biggest renovation and demolition plan of its kind.

It is run collectively by a network consisting of collaborators regionally, nationally and internationally. Our work within the cultural, architectural and art sector is collaborative, futuristic, critical, intersectional and curious. We are constantly co-creating and evaluating our work. We frame our work through diffrent models and medias, such as film screenings [Vest for Paradis], walks [Demolition Tours], dinners [Decolonize your Tastebuds], artist talks and debates, exhibitions, zine workshops, a DJ school for womxn, the lgbtqa+ and the global majority + much more.

Since 2016, we have worked with a LOCAL–GLOBAL approach and lens, regarding issues and interests such as representation / empowerment, gentrification / sustainable development / awareness and agency in architecture, and the nuances of societal and state-run structural racism.

Andromeda 8220 was exhibited and highlighted during the Venice Biennale 2018, Dimensions of Citizenship at the American Pavilion.

In 2020 we took part in the exhibition http://hydrocapsules.love/seasons/collective-amnesia/ at the 11th Berlin Biennale.
