The Entangled Colonialities Collective is pleased to host an online lunch talk by Theresa Kohlbeck Jakobsen who will join us from Germany to speak about fishy feminisms and human-fish entanglements in Faroese literature and history.

Description
How can fishy feminisms, wet ethnography and human-fish entanglements help analyse depictions of labour in and around fisheries and tuberculosis in fictional literature?
Starting with two sibling characters from Martin Joensen’s 1946 novel Fiskimenn, we will explore the gendered blind spots surrounding feminised labour in fish processing and nursing in Faroese literature and history.

About the speaker
Theresa Kohlbeck Jakobsen has a background in Scandinavian Studies as well as European Ethnology and is currently working on their doctorate. In their cross-disciplinary thesis they analyse the interdependence of family and fishery representations in Faroese novels from the early mid-20th century, examining their significance in the discourse on Faroese identity formation. Theresa's interests include the Blue Humanities, the North Atlantic region from a literary perspective and exploring interdisciplinary research through art-based methods. They are affiliated with the Nordeuropa-Institut, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin.
