Day 1 – Nordic Manosphere Network Symposium

Join us for an insightful symposium where leading researchers from the Nordics come together to share innovations and foster collaboration around issues in the “manosphere” and radical approaches to masculinity online.

The symposium is the first activity by the newly established Nordic Manosphere Research Network; a community for critical discussion and collective knowledge-building between different Nordic actors, supported by the Nordic Gender Fund,

Although research on the manosphere is expanding globally, Anglo-American perspectives remain dominant. Research into the manosphere in the Nordic countries is currently dispersed and somewhat under-researched. The Nordic Manosphere Network aims to change this by creating a collaborative, interdisciplinary space that brings manosphere researchers together to share and create future collaborations. The purpose of the Network is to reflect on the Nordic-specific cultures and societies that situate and influence Nordic manospheres in different ways, e.g. the Nordic welfare states, gender equality, state feminism and other cultural and societal issues that are specific to the region.

Practical Information:

The first day of the symposium will feature 8 paper presentations by scholars, as well as a public keynote address by Debbie Ging, Professor of Digital Media and Gender in the School of Communications and Dublin City University.

Location: Room 246, Building 1427, Fredrik Nielsens Vej 2-4, 8000 Aarhus C

Timings:

  • 8.00-9.00am: drop-in arrival
  • 9.00-2.45pm: paper presentations and discussion
  • 3.15pm-4.15pm: keynote by Debbie Ging (Nobel Auditorium, Room 105, Building 1482)

Cost:

  • 160 DKK per day (non-presenters). This will cover a light breakfast, lunch and coffee/tea throughout the day.
