The subject to be discussed during this conference is the relationship between language practices and political discourse. The invited scholars are all conducting outstanding research on political discourse and argumentative semantics, a theoretical approach, initiated by French linguist, Oswald Ducrot.

The aim of the conference is to explore and analyse political discourse in situations such as e.g. debates on climate changes, political speeches and debates as well as social conflicts through an argumentative-semantic approach. The focus of the conference will be concentrated on the relationship between language practices and social and political change that might be the result of language usage. Until now there has been very few, if any, attempts to consolidate a common international research field on political discourse and argumentative semantics, unifying researchers from the Scandinavian countries, South America and France. This seminar is the first to initiate a cross-linguistic discussion with a main focus on the interrelations between meaning and politics.

Participation is free. The colloquium takes place in French. Everyone is welcome.
