Visiting Professor Liam Young working on salt, infrastructure, and data
Autumn 2022 Dr Liam Young (Carleton University) is a visiting professor at the department of Digital Design and Information Studies. His research stay is supported by the AUFF as he continues his research on salt as seen through infrastructure and media studies. Young has already touched on this topic in his article “Salt: Fragments from the History of a Medium” in Theory, Culture, Society journal. Later in the semester he will be giving a research talk on these topics.
Young is also starting a new project on the intersections of gambling, financialization, datafication, and sports. Earlier, he published among other things the book List Cultures: Knowledge and Poetics from Mesopotamia to BuzzFeed in the Amsterdam University Press’ Recursions book series.
