Public, media and democracy

Coordinator: Henrik Kaare Nielsen

www.offentlighed.au.dk/en/

Main area & idea: Public debate and political action are influenced by aestheticization, commercialization and the obligations of a media-saturated public space. At the same time the development of digital and interactive media facilitates new kinds of democratic participation and activism. Both theoretically and methodologically, the program will develop ways of understanding politics and democracy in a mediated, aestheticized culture and an ever more globalized world: one marked by inter-cultural communication and thus by new challenges and expectations vis-à-vis cultural competencies.

Researchers:

Funding: AU IDEAS (Pilotcentre) 2012-2016, 4.000.000 DKR.
