New international Bachelor’s degree programme in cognitive science at Aarhus University

From 1 September 2015 it will be possible to take a Bachelor’s degree programme in cognitive science at Aarhus University. This is a cross-disciplinary degree programme in which students will gain unique insight into how the human consciousness and brain work.

A new Bachelor’s degree programme in cognitive science at Aarhus University features cross-disciplinary studies of the brain and human behaviour; describing how people perceive the world, how they are influenced by social situations, and how they make decisions. The course equips students for a career in the fields of design, consumer behaviour and market analysis, for instance.

Laboratory experiments with brain scanners

The cognitive science degree programme is characterised by its strong focus on experimental methods, with students learning how to design and carry out studies of the human brain and human behaviour.

“We’ll be doing loads of practical lab experiments in which the students will learn to analyse data from brain scans, from behaviour experiments and from large text databases. For instance, is it possible to find out whether someone is depressed based solely on their tone of voice? Or can we conclude anything about a relationship based on measurements of heart rhythms?” explains Kristian Tylén, who is one of the people behind the new degree programme.

Concrete skills with regard to statistics and computer programming will also qualify the students to work in the fields of IT or product design, for instance.

The degree programme will be conducted in English with a view to promoting an international study environment and preparing the students for the international labour market.
