Author Ingrid Nymo joins Aarhus University
For the next two years, author Ingrid Nymo will be based at the School of Communication and Culture at Aarhus University as writer-in-residence. With funding from the Velux Foundation, she will have the opportunity to seek inspiration from researchers and students—and vice versa—while working on her forthcoming novel.
For the next two years, author Ingrid Nymo will be based at the School of Communication and Culture at Aarhus University. She is one of eight fiction writers selected to take up residence at a Danish university through a grant from the Velux Foundation’s writers-in-residence programme Literature and the Humanities in Dialogue.
The programme is designed to allow authors to draw inspiration from researchers and students, while also bringing literary perspectives into the university environment.
Ingrid Nymo is currently working on an ambitious new novel project that will result in her third novel.
- A collaboration with Aarhus University over the next two years will give me a unique opportunity for sustained dialogue with researchers across a broad range of fields that may be relevant to my project. This applies both to the planned research trips and writing residencies, but above all to the daily access to a vibrant academic environment in Aarhus, says Ingrid Nymo.
An original voice
With her novels Kloster (2021) and Den Røde Hane (2024), Ingrid Nymo has established herself as an original voice in Danish literature.
Den Røde Hane is set in western Jutland, and the characters’ dialogue is written in a phonetic rendering of the local Thy dialect. In this context, Nymo has already established contact with several researchers at Nordic Language and Literature who work with dialects and linguistic variation.
The residency now provides an opportunity to further develop this collaboration.
- Writers-in-residence are inspiring for all of us. We learn from one another, both in terms of research and writing, and in how we think about working with texts more generally. Moreover, it is a real benefit for students to encounter authors in a variety of contexts, says Stefan Kjerkegaard, associate professor of Nordic Language and Literature, who, in collaboration with Ingrid Nymo, secured the grant.
