ECREA 2022: Record Number of Abstracts Submitted
Last month the deadline for submission of abstracts for ECREA in Aarhus passed. This year’s conference has received 2021 abstracts, which is a new record for ECREA.
The last few years bore the mark of uncertainty, restrictions, and isolation because of the pandemic. Finally, the world is gradually working towards more normal conditions, and we can finally look forward to in-person conferences, and especially this year’s conference in Aarhus. The high number of submitted abstracts has gotten our department, the Department of Media and Journalism Studies, even more excited and honoured to host the 2022 conference in Aarhus.
This year, 2021 submissions have been received in total. The number consists of 1711 individual submissions and 62 panels (each with five participants) to Sections, Temporary Working Groups and Networks. In comparison Prague, in 2016, attracted 1986 submissions, Lugano, in 2018, reached 1913 submissions, and the 2020/2021 conference hosted by the University of Braga reached a number of 2020 submissions.
A cause for celebration
ECREA has expressed how the high number of submissions, “is a cause for celebration”, as it is an indication of the health of the communications field in Europe. Now that the abstracts are submitted, the process of abstract review is now being in earnest.
Even though the deadline for abstract submission was pushed forward, ECREA has communicated that they endeavour to keep the date of April 26th to inform all prospective participants of the outcome of the reviews process.
The participation confirmation deadline is May 19th.
