13 Canadian museum professionals and researchers visit the Center for Museology during the autumn holidays
How can Nordic museum mergers inspire regional museums in Canada? A delegation from Québec will be exploring this question when they visit Aarhus University in October during the autumn holidays, as part of a joint project with the Center for Museology.
The visit is part of the project Towards a Sustainable Organizational Museum Model inspired by Nordic Museums, which has received funding from the Nordic Council of Ministers for both the Canadian and Aarhus partners.
The aim of the project is to examine how Nordic experiences with museum mergers and new organizational models can inspire museums in a Canadian context, where many regional museums face similar challenges.
The program in Aarhus includes meetings with Danish museum researchers and leaders, representatives from the Danish Agency for Culture and Palaces and the Danish Museums Association, as well as a study trip to the merged Varde Museums. In addition, the Canadian guests will be introduced to key Danish merger cases by cultural consultant Lene Bak, while museum director Jan Heggheim will present his own merged museum, Musea in Sogn og Fjordane, as a case study. Former director of Den Gamle By, Thomas Bloch Ravn, has been invited to participate in a discussion about models for open-air museums and the experiences from Den Gamle By’s takeover of the City Museum and the Occupation Museum.
The delegation’s stay is organized as a professional exchange of experiences, where the Canadian guests will also present their own museum practices and challenges. Through a series of workshops and excursions, the visit will not only provide opportunities to rethink sustainable organizational models but also strengthen international knowledge-sharing in the field of museology.
This announcement is based on a press release.
