Research

Silke specialise in the contemporary cultural history of 20th-century Denmark and Europe, with a particular focus on the second half of the century. In her research, she explore how historical ideas, images, emotions, and cultural narratives circulate in the urban spaces. In current projects, she studies the emotional readings of class, gender, and ethnicity in 1970s nightlife spaces, the circulation of audiovisual images in the predigital age, as well as public images and imaginings about ethnic minorities in television, literature and popular culture.

At the Danish National Archives, she workes with public history, digital archival heritage, digital dissemination and image collection management.

She is particularly interested in theory of experience and the interplay between emotions and urban environments, and in how historical and archival research can be rethought and practiced in a digital age.
