In Project MEDVID (MEDVID I, MEDVID II and MEDVID III), we focused on knowledge sharing, dissemination and communication within the medico-technical and the medical scientific area. The project was a cooperation between companies, research centres and translation companies exchanging knowledge on language use, translation and communication in the medical area.

The development and research project took its starting point in a special concept for knowledge sharing in the terminology and communication area. By sharing your own knowledge and including it in the internet-based work of reference, the TermFlower, you gain access to the knowledge the other members have shared. In the MEDVID community, the members shared their knowledge on Danish and English technical language in the Dictionary of Medical Science; an illustration of the use of the TermFlower concept.

Project MEDVID intended to

• Establish cooperations concerning knowledge sharing and knowledge development within medical engineering, health science as well as language and communication research.
• Lay down methods to exchange knowledge across institutional, organisational and professional boundaries.
• Create access to knowledge ensuring a more effective communication between knowledge environments and knowledge consumers.
• Suggest models integrating knowledge communication and knowledge sharing in the medical and health scientific area.

Through the development of internet-based tools for knowledge sharing, we wished to take part in professionalising communication in the medical and health scientific areas. In a broader perspective, the intention of the project was to take part in strengthening the cooperation between the research environment and the business community.

Project MEDVID began in 2003 and ended in 2006. Chief librarian, Tove Bang, from the Library of the Aarhus School of Business was responsible project administrator. Lab Manager and Professor Morten Pilegaard was professionel manager of the project which was supported by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation through the Jutlandic-Funen IT Programme (Jysk-fynsk IT-korridor).
