We are delighted to announce that our guest will be Rustom Bharucha, a distinguished professor of theatre and performance studies, the author of such influential books as Terror and Performance (2014), The Politics of Cultural Practice: Thinking Through Theatre in an Age of Globalization (2000), or Theatre and the World: Performance and the Politics of Culture (1993). Most recently, he has completed a new book, Performing the Ramayana Tradition: Enactments, Interpretations, and Arguments, coedited with Paula Richman, which will be published in June 2021.

Locked down in his home-city of Kolkata since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemia, Rustom Bharucha has engaged in research on the coronavirus and other states of epidemic and disease in relation to theatre. As a result of this inquiry, with the support of the International Research Center/Interweaving Performance Cultures, he has recorded a series of lectures touching upon the “symbiotic, contrapuntal, intimate and divisive dynamics of theatre and the coronavirus” which is available to watch here:
