The experience and communication of illness as risk.
All are welcome but please register before 10 November:
Traditionally, illness has been understood as closely intertwined with either the occurrence of physical symptoms or a medical diagnosis. This research seminar begins with the premise that this is no longer the case. Owing to a range of technological and cultural developments—for example, the advent and spread of screening programs, predictive genetic tests, and preventive forms of health communication and precision medicine—illness is increasingly experienced, communicated, and handled as something in the future tense, that is, as a risk, potential, or something in-the-making. The seminar, hosted by the Center for Health Communication (CHEC), aims to facilitate an interdisciplinary dialogue between researchers and practitioners from the fields of Health and Arts who are interested in the communicative and experiential implications of this cultural transformation.
