Celebrating the centennial anniversary of Danish women´s right to vote, Passepartout no. 37 focusses on women in Danish and Scandinavian art. In 2003, Passepartout no. 21 shed light upon a similar topic, from a more international point of view. The objective of this issue, is to shed light on the Scandinavian art scene, from a museological and historiographical angle. In connection with the centennial anniversary in 2015, several Danish museums will arrange exhibitions with female artists and put the art history of women artists on display. Passepartout welcomes articles that address the topical subject of women in arts.

Even though it has been a hundred years since Danish women were given the right to vote, many questions are still left unanswered, when it comes to the issue of women in arts: Why are so few women in the Danish Culture Canon? Can traces of the traditional conception of `The great male artist´ still be found today? What is the relationship between the number of women being educated at art schools and the number of female artists that actually experience a major breakthrough? Are traditionally feminine modes of expression, such as ceramics and needlework, still considered handicraft, rather than fine art?

In this edition of the journal, we would like to see great diversity, as far as different types of articles are concerned. Therefore, we are looking for historiographical, analytical and empirically founded articles, and research based interviews, as well as articles with a sociological and/or historical perspective. Likewise, we welcome research based on statistical information on the ratio of art works created by female artists purchased by Danish museums, plus statistics regarding the number of women being admitted into art schools, since 1915.
