Meet the Interns: Majbritt Kastberg Grønbæk

The Recreational Fear Lab is delighted to host several research interns in the fall of 2022. In this post, lab intern Majbritt Kastberg Grønbæk tells us about herself and her interest in the lab.

Hi! My name is Majbritt and I'm currently doing my MA in English with a minor in History. I’m very excited to spend this semester as an intern at the Recreational Fear Lab.

If you had told me when I was younger that I would ever be working with anything horror or fear related, I would have thought you were delusional. This would mostly have been due to me being terrified by anything mildly scary. Especially a traumatising incident with The Blair Witch Project in the 9th grade had me swearing off the horror genre. However, my tolerance for horror has gotten slightly better and, despite the efforts of my younger self, I have been increasingly drawn to the world of horror and fear. After reading a couple Stephen King novels, watching Cabin in the Woods and the 2017 adaptation of IT, and attending a couple lectures on horror, I was sold and have become a horror fan, albeit a very cautious one. Horror films and horror stories will still give me occasional restless nights, but I have become too intrigued to stay away from them.

After spending some cold October nights as a research assistant for the Recreational Fear Lab (and having a great time doing it), I decided to ask if they needed any interns. Since starting university, I have become fascinated with research in horror and fear. Doing an internship with the Lab offers a fun environment in which to learn some new skills and cultivate my interests in horror and fear research.
