Research (in) the gaps. Call for participation in a warkshop organized by DARC and transmediale
In response to transmediale's 2027 thematic framework, the annual research workshop, organised by the Digital Aesthetics Research Center (Aarhus University) in collaboration with transmediale, calls for participants. Interstices: Research (in) the gaps is targeted toward PhD/early career researchers, and welcomes submissions from researchers from inside/outside the academy, including artists, designers, and curators. Deadline 28 August 2026.
Digital Aesthetics Research Center (DARC) long-term collaboration with transmediale art and digital culture festival continues for the festival's 40th anniversary in 2027.
In resonance with transmediale's 2027 theme groundstates & fragile currents focusing on "the subterranean currents of imagination that build collective stories, rabbit holes, and speculations of the communities populating semi-shadowed worlds" we explore interstitial spaces. Our workshop "Interstices: Research (in) the gaps" seeks to engange with the necessary in-betweeness of structures, and the practices and communities that inhabit such gaps. We engange with the empty spaces of social, cultural and computational structures and will explore methods, tools, and critical approaches delving in "dark forests".
The workshop invites proposals that research through the gaps, including structural, ontological, material, and social gaps, and interventions and speculations that expand them. The workshop is specifically targeted toward PhD/early career researchers, and welcomes submission from researchers inside/outside the academy, including artists, designers, and curators.
The call for projects and participation, alongside further information about the theme of the workshop, can be found here.
Centre for Critical Data Practices (C4CDP) and DARC are research partners.
