Centre for Lexicography - Research into Needs-Adapted Information and Data Access is a research centre at Aarhus University, School of Business and Social Sciences, established in 1996. The Centre is the only one of its kind in Denmark and is unique in having established two Chairs in Lexicography. 

Staff 
5 researchers are currently affiliated with the Centre. In addition, a project staff and a dictionary staff work with theoretical and practical lexicography. 

Vision
The vision of the Centre is to maintain its position as a leading international research centre (centre of excellence) which is a substantial player within the field of lexicographical research and in the development of lexicography of the future in the form of needs-adapted information and data access.

Mission
The mission of the Centre is to pursue groundbreaking research and to publish in major, internationally renowned and peer-reviewed journals. The research of the Centre is disseminated through books and manuals aimed at a wider audience and through organising and participating in international conferences. Furthermore, it is the mission of the Centre to provide a wide range of consultancy services in the area of conception, compilation and maintenance of dictionaries and the software needed for the editing of dictionaries and innovative information tools, through applying the most recent theories of needs-adapted information and data access.

Purpose
The purpose of the Centre is to

• increase the focus on lexicography of the future in the form of needs-adapted information and data access
• create an attractive research environment and attract researchers of the highest international calibre
• support team and project research, with full respect for the individual researcher
• further cooperation with leading lexicographical environments and thus contribute positively to the development of lexicography of the future
• further the innovation process through developing lexicographical tools and applying the most recent theories
• include national and international networks of specialists in the innovation process

Focus
The Centre focuses on the following themes:

• General function-oriented theories for lexicographical tools
• General theories for needs-adapted information and data access
• Specific theories for data search and data presentation in printed dictionaries, encyclopaedias and other lexicographical tools
• Specific theories for data search and data presentation in online dictionaries, encyclopaedias and other lexicographical tools
• Specific theories for different dictionary types, including general-language dictionaries, special-language dictionaries, encyclopaedias, thesauruses and other lexicographical tools
• Specific theories for the use of lexicographical principles of information search in non-lexicographical works, including textbooks, handbooks, manuals, how-to's, guides and other information tools.
