This new PhD course in rhetorical close reading invites PhD students to practice close reading together with experienced rhetorical critics, who will share their hands on approach to the method. The course takes place the 27-29 of March 2023 at Sandbjerg Gods.

Together we interpret relevant artefacts and discuss the position of rhetorical close reading in the field of rhetoric. What characterizes good close reading? Where is the line between an established methodology and the critic's more personal feeling of the text? Where does the method have its strengths and weaknesses?

In addition to the workshop and discussions, each participant is invited to present their PhD project and receive feedback from lecturers as well as the other participants.
