Are seniors as good at learning new things as younger adults?

A widespread assumption is that learning new things becomes more difficult, maybe impossible, as one becomes older. But is that really so?

Our project examines the ability of seniors to learn new speech sounds. Previous research suggests that our language learning ability does not decline as we get older, but very little is known about how difficult or easy it is to acquire new language skills at an advanced age.

Our basic research is the first to systematically examine the ability of seniors to learn new speech sounds.

Are you a native speaker of English?

Would you like to contribute to new research on seniors’ ability to learn new speech sounds? We are currently looking for native English speakers to judge English words spoken by Danish speakers.

The experiment takes place in Nobelparken at Aarhus University (Jens Chr. Skous Vej 4, 8000 Aarhus). It takes about 15 minutes and consists of two easy listening tasks.
