Center for Health Communication (CHEC) was created in 2021 in order to provide a framework for both ongoing and upcoming research activities and initiatives in the field of health communication.
Communication is a fundamental component of health and healthcare. Effective health communication is crucial for the health of the population and for patient safety and quality and therefore has important consequences for both individuals and society. Communication is central to all aspects of healthcare, from diagnosis to treatment, from medical education to patient education, from social media to patient narratives, from medical consultation to the public space.
Center for Health Communication (CHEC) has of broad understanding of health communication as a term and academic field. At the center, we understand health communication as all communication across actors and roles that pertains to health in the broadest sense (including, for example, illness, well-being, the health sector) or uses communication for health-promoting purposes. This communication can take place in or outside the health sector.
