This project aims to shed light on the prompt engineering process around Large Language Models (LLMs), an emerging field that is currently poorly understood. By studying the prompt engineering process and the prior knowledge that people activate to make sense of LLMs, this project has the potential to reveal transferable skills from machine learning that lend themselves to bootstrapping people during prompt engineering. The project also seeks to develop activities that support people in learning how to better prompt engineer. This could have significant implications for improving how computational thinking/literacy is taught, as well as improving the accessibility of LLMs for a broader population.
