The Exhibitionary Complex in the Age of Transparency

Project description

Today, whether in politics, technology, economics, health or culture, on a local or global level, demands for transparency are ubiquitous. In contemporary curating, transparency is typically imported as an inherent value and conceptualized in terms of for instance disclosure and access. Considering the advent of new digital technology and the ubiquity of the rhetoric and valorization of transparency, the question is whether this value can still play a productive role in the making of exhibitions? How is contemporary art reacting towards the ideal or the normative? And finally, what possibilities does curating have for taking on other directions?
