Cecilia Arregui Olivera is a postdoctoral fellow at the Media and Journalism Studies Department, Aarhus University on the project “Soft 'power play' at the 2026 FIFA World Cup: Audience perspectives in contexts of political conflict” where we will develop a new theoretical framework at the intersection of sports, politics, and conflict by looking at media framing and audience expectations in Canada and Mexico, two co-hosts of the 2026 World Cup. She is part of the Danish team in the third wave of the Journalistic Role Performance project. Her research interests centre on news production in situations of conflict, foreign news, and journalistic roles. She teaches at the Erasmus Mundus Journalism Programme and the Media Studies master’s degree in a range of courses that delve into journalism and media production. Born and raised in Montevideo, Uruguay, Cecilia worked as a journalist and video editor for national and international news media—including El Observador, Storyhunter, and CNN En Español—before starting her academic career.
