The Middle Passage has been seen as emblematic for the trade, but the part of history that became before it, in the hinterlands and coasts of West Africa are often left out of the history. Our three speakers highlights the complexities inherent in narrating this story and presenting it both in a European and West African context.

Program

10.00 Welcome, Mads Anders Baggesgaard

10.15 Emmanuel Saboro, Cape Coast University, Ghana: Historical and Cultural Memories of the Slave Trade in Ghana: The Hidden and Lost Stories that Spaces and Places Tell

10.45 William Nsuiban, Ghana Monu: “’Blind Spots: Unveiling the Shadows’, exhibiting slavery in contemporary Ghana”

11.15 Break

12.00 Jeppe Brixvold: Presentation of the novel ”I de levendes verden” (In The World of the Living, 2023)

12.45 Panel discussion: Representing slavery in Ghana

<eventStart>Sun, 13 Oct 2024 10:00:00 +0200</eventStart><eventEnd>Sun, 13 Oct 2024 13:00:00 +0200</eventEnd><eventPlace>Godsbanen Vogn 1, Indgang 3H, Kjeld Tolstrups Gade 3, Aarhus.</eventPlace><eventOrganizer></eventOrganizer><redia-rss-arrangement:location>Godsbanen Vogn 1, Indgang 3H, Kjeld Tolstrups Gade 3, Aarhus.</redia-rss-arrangement:location><redia-rss-arrangement:starttime>1728806400</redia-rss-arrangement:starttime><redia-rss-arrangement:endtime>1728817200</redia-rss-arrangement:endtime><redia-rss-arrangement:display-starttime>1728806400</redia-rss-arrangement:display-starttime><redia-rss-arrangement:display-endtime>1728817200</redia-rss-arrangement:display-endtime>

Dialogue with Africa

Seminar in collaboration with Danish PEN

<eventStart>Sat, 12 Oct 2024 10:00:00 +0200</eventStart><eventEnd></eventEnd><eventPlace></eventPlace><eventOrganizer></eventOrganizer><redia-rss-arrangement:location></redia-rss-arrangement:location><redia-rss-arrangement:starttime>1728720000</redia-rss-arrangement:starttime><redia-rss-arrangement:endtime></redia-rss-arrangement:endtime><redia-rss-arrangement:display-starttime>1728720000</redia-rss-arrangement:display-starttime><redia-rss-arrangement:display-endtime></redia-rss-arrangement:display-endtime>
