This research programme studies literature in its historical, cultural and social contexts.
The study of literature is an old scholarly tradition which is currently pursuing new paths of exploration. The global changes of our time make us ask new questions about our communities and about our place in nature as humans – and literature helps to shape and understand these questions.
Indeed, literature itself is also changing: new literary genres, media and connections are starting to appear, while digital archives of text and analytical tools challenge the limits of the methods and field involved in the study of literature. The Literary Studies research programme examines these and many other developments in a scholarly community transcending the conventional distinctions that are drawn between academic subjects and disciplines.
