<h3 class="elementtoproof">Translatio imperii&nbsp;and The End(s) of History: The Imperial theme in La Numancia reconsidered&nbsp;</h3>
<p>In this work-in-progress-talk I want to present an analysis/discussion of the imperial theme in Miguel de Cervantes’ drama <em>El Cerco de Numancia </em>(The Siege of Numancia, c. 1585). I argue that Cervantes’ play can be read as a critique of the notion of <em>translation imperii </em>– the continuous (westward) transfer or supercession of imperial authority from antiquity – vis á vis the decline of the Spanish Habsburg Empire.&nbsp;</p>
