As the global distribution, broadcast and viewing of Danish TV drama in different parts of the world involves the engagement of heterogeneous players involved in complex interrelationships, this article discusses the methodological lens of the ‘three-leaf clover’ to capture the complexity of these interrelationships. The article explains how the three-leaf clover model helps in embracing transnational interconnectivities, presents its opportunities and challenges and tests the capacity of the model by discussing the differing historical trajectories of how the series travelled into the world, the varying intensities of interest in the series and the permeability of the audience groupings.

C. This article explores the relationships between nation branding, authenticity, language and their ideologies by considering two themes. First, how language ideologies and language practices texture the transnational production, distribution and viewing of subtitled television drama. Second, the extent and ways by which subtitled television dramas, in languages other than English, brand the nation to which they are associated. Using the context of increasing exports of Danish television drama to other nations, the article draws its empirical material from fieldwork interactions with industry professionals and viewers in Japan to consider both themes. The article proposes that there are different intensities by which Danish television dramas brand Denmark and the Nordic region; it discusses the implications of the use of English, and how branding the nation involves processes that are intrinsically fragile and require symbiotic relations with other languages and other nations to be successful. This article forms part of the Theorizing Media in Nation Branding Special Issue.

This article converges insights from media geography, international business, marketing, linguistics and cognitive science in an exploratory discussion that examines the relationships between language convergence in the TV drama series The Team (2015) and the notion of Born European/Born Global products and companies. It presents the linguistic notion of 'code-switching' that occurs when multilingual speakers shift between languages and reflects this in the views of the scriptwriters and participants of two group interviews that differed in their sensitivities to multiple languages. By considering how people 'see' what they 'hear', the article considers how multilingual resources are used aesthetically, politically and strategically with business goals in sight. These views are further associated with conceptual developments in the notion of 'Born Global' that describes the characteristics and activities of companies that conduct international activities from their inception. The article uses these developments in thinking about the novel convergences present in international intrapreneurship, the labelling of phenomena as European/regional/global, and the identification of product attributes such as culture-specificity and domain-specificity to suggest that language convergence, and especially the presence of English, becomes an integral attribute of The Team Language convergence.
