What can we learn about phonological knowledge from users of three or more languages? In this talk, I will report on recent and ongoing work in my lab examining phonological systems through the lens of multilingualism. Drawing upon data from production and/or perception of English, German, Mandarin, Spanish, Thai, and Yoruba, the talk will address the dynamics of progressive and regressive cross-linguistic influence at the phonological level among one's first, second, and third languages, as well as implications for theories of speech perception, language acquisition, and language typology.

Events are organized by the research unit for Sounds of Language and Speech and sponsored by the research program for Language and Communication. They are free and open for everybody to attend. For more information contact Sidsel Holm Rasmussen sira@cc.au.dk
