<p><strong>ONCE UPON A SCREEN</strong> – screening and discussion<br> <strong>Time:</strong>&nbsp;Saturday 10 December at 11:00-13:00<br> <strong>Location:</strong>&nbsp;<a href="https://platformk.dk/" target="_self">Platform K Arts Centre</a>, Madevej 2, 8700 Horsens<br> <br> This event is supported by the <a href="https://cc.au.dk/en/research/research-programmes/cultural-transformations" target="_self">Cultural Transformations</a> research programme in association with <a href="https://platformk.dk/" target="_self">Platform K</a>.</p>
<p>In 2020, Ariel Avissar (Steve Tisch School of Film and Television at Tel Aviv University) and Evelyn Kreutzer (Filmuniversität Babelsberg) invited some of the world’s most respected video essayists to make short films recalling their most personal and traumatic encounters with film as children.</p>
<p><strong>Once Upon A Screen</strong>, as they called it, generated some of the best video essays of 2020, as recognized in the <a href="https://www.bfi.org.uk/sight-and-sound/best-video-essays-2020" target="_self">annual poll by international film journal&nbsp;Sight &amp; Sound</a>. (The films were published in the online journal&nbsp;<em><a href="http://www.thecine-files.com/" target="_self">The Cine Files</a></em>.)</p>
<p>In 2022, Avissar and Kreutzer repeated the exercise, but this time they asked video essayists to make films based on the formative screen memories of others.</p>
<p>The Platform K screening and discussion will celebrate the publication of this second iteration in <em><a href="http://mediacommons.org/intransition/" target="_self">[in]Transition</a></em><em>,</em> the online journal&nbsp;of videographic film and moving image studies.</p>
<p>Ariel Avissar and Evelyn Kreutzer, with film scholar and video essayist Alan O’Leary (Aarhus University), will present <strong>a selection of the best of both versions of Once Upon A Screen</strong><strong>, with recorded introductions by each of the filmmakers</strong>. The programme of films will be followed by a Q&amp;A with the audience.</p>
