Understanding Project Management as a Knowledge Communication and Knowledge Management Process
Problem
Current Project Management models and theories include communication, but because of the history of Project Management as a field emerging from an engineering and accounting focus, communication is not understood to be as central as it could be in PM models. This research plan looks at Project Management from a communication perspective, placing communication in projects as a central focus and integrating knowledge communication, knowledge management and project management theory. The theoretical frame for the research is rooted in rhetoric, and offers a fresh perspective on Project Management centred in communication. The research question areas include project management as a problem solving process, project management visualization techniques as producing knowledge through their application, & project management processes as situated in a combination of organizational and national cultural systems.
