This talk will outline several current advances in the sociocultural psychology of creativity. Unified by the assumption that creativity is not a psychological but a psycho-social-material phenomenon, sociocultural models try to integrate sociality, materiality, and temporality within our understanding of the creative process. In sociocultural terms, creativity is defined as a form of action (of doing or making), action that is culturally mediated, collaborative, meaningful, and situated. Using a "new vocabulary" of differences, positions, perspectives, affordances, and reflexivity to describe creative action, this presentation will consider the multiple conceptual, methodological as well as practical consequences of approaching creativity in sociocultural terms.

This lecture is open to all colleagues and students. We hope to see you there!
