Associate professor (lektor) in international business communication in German 980346

Applications are invited for the position of associate professor (lektor) in international business communication in German at the School of Communication and Culture.
 
The appointment is tenured, and begins on 1 September 2018 or as soon as possible thereafter.
 
The position
The position is at the Department of German and Romance Languages, which is part of the School of Communication and Culture, and involves research, teaching and supervision, talent development and knowledge exchange related to international business communication in German.
 
More specifically, we are looking for a dedicated applicant who has contributed to research and/or teaching in areas such as international business communication in German, preferably including German or international market communication. In addition, it will be an advantage if the applicant can document research and/or teaching qualifications within the field of social media in a German marketing and business communication context. Applicants must also be qualified to teach core courses at BA and MA level within the marketing communication or PR-oriented disciplines of the German programmes, including such topics as international and intercultural market communication, foreign media and stakeholder relations in an intercultural perspective.
 
A position as associate professor includes tasks and responsibilities in all of Aarhus University’s core activities in the areas of research, teaching and supervision, talent development and knowledge exchange.
 
Applicants must have a native or near-native command of German and must master Danish at a level which enables them to adopt a contrastive approach to German and Danish. 
 
Research
The successful applicant is expected to pursue her or his own research in fields such as German business communication, international or German market communication or social media in the context of German marketing and business communication and is required to publish internationally within these fields. The Department of German and Romance Languages and other departments at Aarhus University offer numerous opportunities for research collaboration. The School of Communication and Culture places emphasis on peer-reviewed research of a high international standard, including interdisciplinary collaboration with internal and external partners, and the attraction of external research funding.
 
Teaching
The position includes research-based teaching at BA and MA level in German. As noted above, the courses cover the marketing communication or PR-oriented disciplines of the German programmes, including such topics as international and intercultural market communication, foreign media and stakeholder relations in an intercultural perspective. The successful candidate will be expected to teach other disciplines of the German BA- and MA-programmes as well as interdisciplinary courses for students at the Department of German and Romance Languages and possibly at the School of Communication and Culture as a whole. Teaching responsibilities include individual and group supervision at all levels.
 
Given the increasingly international focus of the degree programmes, the successful applicant should be prepared to teach in English.
 
Talent development
The successful applicant will be expected to supervise BA, MA and PhD students as well as assistant professors (adjunkter).
 
Knowledge exchange
The successful applicant is expected to engage in knowledge exchange activities with various sectors of society outside the university. The appointee is also expected to contribute to the general public debate in areas related to his or her expertise.
 
Qualifications required
Applicants must have a PhD or equivalent qualifications as well as research and teaching qualifications corresponding to those obtained after the successful completion of a period of employment as an assistant professor, although equivalent academic qualifications may be accepted.
 
The successful applicant must be able to document:
  • Relevant academic publications within the field of international business communication in German at an international level
  • Experience of participation in international research projects, conferences and networks
  • Relevant teaching experience and teacher-training qualifications at university level
  • Experience of supervision of assignments
It will considered an advantage if the applicant can document:
  • Research qualifications within German or international market communication 
  • Research and/or teaching qualifications within the field of social media in a German marketing and business communication context
  • Experience of administrative tasks
Participation in the daily life of the department is a high priority, and we emphasise the importance of good working relationships, both among colleagues and with our students. In order to maintain and develop the department’s excellent teaching and research environment, the successful applicant is expected to be present at the department on a daily basis, which will contribute to the School of Communication and Culture’s goal of strengthening its strategic efforts to establish one of the best language and communication research environments in the Nordic countries.

The Department of German and Romance Languages at the School of Communication and Culture
The Department of German and Romance Languages contains two main types of degree programme: language and culture programmes within the humanities, and business communication programmes. The department consists of a range of academic environments (French, Italian, Spanish and German), each with its own course coordinator and a range of research units (see more under each research programme.)

The School of Communication and Culture offers a broad range of research and degree programmes across a variety of fields: literature(s), information and media studies, linguistics, Scandinavian studies, Western European languages and cultures, knowledge communication, international business communication, business languages and the arts and aesthetics. The School of Communication and Culture hosts a large variety of disciplines including English, French, German, Spanish, Scandinavian studies, semiotics, linguistics, and information and media studies. The school is the organisational framework for about 180 academic staff, 60 PhD students and around 5,000 MA and BA students.

Applicants will be informed of the membership of the committee.
